10,000 B.C.

Director Roland Emmerich weaves myth and legend together in this epic love story. As the Ice Age is ending, the Yagahl people are struggling to survive. When Evolet (Camilla Belle), a young, blue-eyed girl is found and brought back to the tribe, their esteemed elder, Old Mother (Mona Hammond), realizes that the child is fulfilling a prophecy and will be instrumental in saving the Yagahl. D'Leh (Steven Strait) swore his heart to Evolet when she first came to the tribe, and after many years claims her as his own. But no sooner are the young lovers together, than they are torn apart by mysterious men arriving on horseback who kidnap many of the Yagahl, including Evolet, for slave trade. Determined to save his love and their people, D'Leh embarks on a rescue mission with his father figure Tic'Tic (Cliff Curtis). Along the way, they encounter different lands, new people, and strange creatures including giant birds akin to a killer ostrich.

Mixing history and fantasy, there is little (if anything) t...

Pre-Historical Inaccuracy

bythewasp Mar 8, 2008

Pros We care about the characters to some extent
Cons Not terribly original action and melodrama
Recommended it? Yes

If you've seen "Apocalypto," there's really no need for you to see "10,000 BC." Both movies have hapless villagers, a young hero in love with a damsel in distress, evil slave raiders, pyramids and boats. The principal difference is that the boats appear earlier in "10,000 BC," which also steals... Read full review »

10,000 BC stands for "Bad Choice"

Pros Good CGI mammoths, if you're a pachyderm fan. Some of the sets are stunning.
Cons Everything else - the acting, directing, story, all of it.
Recommended it? No

I like fantasies and enjoy seeing CGI critters run around on screen, the bigger the better. The trailer for this flick implied I'd get to view mammoths, saber-toothed cats, and (I hoped) many more prehistoric beasts you normally only see as bones dug up from La Brea tarpits. I didn't even really... Read full review »

One You Won't Have a Problem Skipping

Pros Great special effects
Cons So long and boring, you'll fall asleep
Recommended it? No

This movie was one of those my husband and I watched only becuase we really wanted to see a movie. Not because we particularly wanted to see it or heard good things about it. It's one that I would skip in the future, and I wouldn't recommend to anyone else unless you just want to see some good... Read full review »

Professional Reviews

(03/07/2008, Kenneth Turan): "More than anything, 10,000 BC is an updated version of those old Saturday matinee action films and serials, filled with hair-breadth escapes, wild coincidences, things foretold by ancient prophecy and mysterious places..."
