As many people know, the first Diablo was one of the greatest games in PC history. It's intense action combined with just a little strategy thinking made this game truly exciting. On Diablo II, Blizzard took it a few steps further, with better graphics, more levels (places to go, scenery, etc.), and the option of five different character classes.
For those of you who are not at all familiar with this game, I'll give you the low-down. Diablo II (and the first) are simply one of those good vs. evil games. You can pick different warrior classes to fight different levels of monsters, ghouls, and goblins. Along the way, the character of your choice "levels up" with more experience gained. You can choose to increase the character's dexterity, strength, energy, etc. As you progress through the game, the monsters become increasingly difficult. The game ends when you defeat the devil himself.
The game can be complex, with many different quests to complete and places to go. However, the overall gameplay is remarkably easy. It is a simple point and click game played with the mouse. Fighting, picking things up, and navigating your way through the game is very simple. Too often, games like this need a brain surgeon to figure out. With Diablo II, people can enjoy it without feeling like they're in a human genetics seminar.
The only dowside to Diablo II that I have encountered is that Battle.net (the provider of multiplayer over the net) is having many server problems. If you go to play a game on multiplayer, you will see that the games on there lag pretty bad. Many times, you can not even log on to it. However, Battle.net, from what I understand, is working on the problem, so I would imagine things should get better fairly quickly.
Beating the game takes a tremendous amount of time. And when you do, it is something to be damn proud of. Not many people are able to do it (legitimately anyway). It is a very difficult game, but very rewarding to those who enjoy a challenge. As I said, you have to complete many different quests given to you by other characters on the game. Diablo II can take many weeks to beat, but it never ceases to be just downright fun.
If you are a person that enjoys adventure games, a good challenge, and wants to buy something that is going to keep you entertained for a long time, I highly recommend you give Diablo II a try.
