The 211st Opinion on D2, with a little difference

Pros hours and hours of fun
Cons when these hours end, it's a hollow feeling
Recommended it? Yes
Why, I asked myself - would I do a review on an item that had been reviewed 210 times previously? AND move off my favorite genre, racing, to do it? Because Diablo has lived an interesting time on my computer, like no other game. So I am going to speak about my experience with it, and my personal thoughts on it - the nitty gritty would be much better understood reading Epoch's excellent review on the same game.

I came across Diablo II at school, when one day I turned up to it and there were about 10 people in space of an hour who asked me if I had got a copy of it anywhere - I had never played the original, but I thought hey, I'd give this a go. So when a friend of mine had exams, I borrowed his copy and well.. I finished it on Normal in what, three days? I said to myself.. Man, this is INSANE - I've gotta stop this... Which is exactly what I said to myself after finishing it again in about a week as a different character.

Why is it so addictive? I think it's the point-and-click nature of the beast. Its simplicity, the compulsive urge to get your character just to that next level (and then I'd sleep...) was unbelievable, and really, there was nothing better for me than to see my sorceress' Inferno stretch across two-thirds of the screen, giving me this intangible satisfaction out of it.

All was great until, one day I realised - my god, this is getting repetitive - and I had gotten rid of the game, for good. There was no challenge, no surprises or no plot that I wanted to discover anymore. Of course, I came back for the secrew *** level (I'm not giving it away) but that was it. This excellent game, with its cute graphics, acute (how else would I describe it?) sound, and fun, if simplistic gameplay, was repetitive. Too much so - no variation on the ending according to your actions, no variation on the game, the enemies or the plot at all, it was a Doom-esque game, in guise of an adventure game.

If you're like me, and look for some intellectual, or skillful, challenge in a game, with more than compulsive replay value, give this game a miss - it'll consume your time and leave you with a somewhat disappointed feeling, otherwise, it's a fun game to play.
