Repetitiveness, Thy Name Is Diablo II.

Pros Movies are excellent.
Cons Too much thoughtless clicking.
Recommended it? No
Way back when the first Diablo came out, it was the first game that ever prompted the guys in my apartment to actually purchase 2 copies of the same game. Coming from a bunch of college students on financial aid, that really means something. After a while though, the afterglow faded, we realized that the game was just basically "click, click, click", people started cheating, and we grew tired of it all, especially after seeing the lame variations of the exact same ending that you recieved for all 3 characters.

Then came Diablo II. This game had us thoroughly unenthused because it didn't really promise anything revolutionary, or for that matter, anything even evolutionary. It was just more of the same with a couple new character classes.

But we picked it up because we have friends of friends who work at Blizzard, and gave it a shot. After all at $10/copy, what did we have to lose?

At first, it was pretty engrossing. It was fun running around with our party of 5 characters hacking and slashing our way past everything in our path. The new skill trees were really cool at first, as were all the new sets of magical items.

The new plot was interesting for a while...you have to track down and slay the wanderer from the first game...he has become unable to control the stone he stuck in his forehead and Diablo is ready to make his comeback. Tyrael is interesting, and the movie he is in is very, very impressive, but you sort of lose interest in the plot when you realize that the simpering weakling who has botched everything else throughout the game is only going to muck it all up and set the stage for a sequel or an expansion pack. It was interesting to see the old town from the first game and what happened to the townspeople, namely, the blacksmith and Wirt.

But, as was bound to happen, all the furious clicking lost its luster pretty quickly and all we really wanted to do by the time we hit Act III was just get through the game so we could see the ending cinematics, which were actually done quite well this time.

So, we cheated and started duplicating items and gems so we'd be beefed up and cut down enemies faster just so we could get to the ending, but who could blame us...it wasn't exciting anymore, and we had lives to lead that didn't require us to be clicking thousands of times an hour.

I honestly don't know how some people can play this game for much longer than a week, and I really don't understand all the people who are on battle.net buying and selling items on ebay. Don't you realize that this is just a game?! I mean none of this stuff is REAL! It's all a bunch of ones and zeros on someone else's computer!

So, bottom line, if you're really interested in this game, ask around, you're more than likely to find a friend who's already beaten it, and is not very enthused about ever picking it up again.
