I had never played the original Diablo, but I heard from friends about Diablo 2, and tried it at their house, and it was great. I ordered it for myself that day, and have been enthralled with it ever since. It has tremendous replay value, only one of the reasons for is the 2 extra difficulty levels that become available after you beat the game in the previous level. Regular, then Nightmare, then Hell. Each harder and more fun than the last, with more challenges and things to deal with.
One of the few drawbacks is that there are only 5 classes to choose from - Barbarian, Sorceress, Necromancer, Amazon, and Paladin. Compared to some other games out there, this is a small selection. However there is such a range of choices you can make in developing a character, that you could make, for example, 5 sorceress and none would play alike. One could focus on fire based magic, another cold based, and another lightning based, then another could be a mixture being "good at everything, masters at nothing". So there really are more choices than there appear to be. The same applies to the other classes in different ways, making many different play styles available.
Overall - a definite must have game, that will keep you playing for a long time.
