I started playing Diablo II and was enthralled by the game. My attention was held for hours. I could not get up and leave the computer. My wife had to check on me from time to time to make sure I was still breathing. Now that I have started playing Baldur's Gate 2 I have no idea what was keeping me at the computer for so long every day. I guess it was the anticipation of new magical items, armor, and the bosses at the end of the stages. But this could not be the only thing holding me in place, could it? I am not sure what it was but Blizzard has a way of making the gaming experience a pleasurable one.
There was a considerable improvement to the earlier Diablo. There were many more places to explore. There were even more towns to go to and explore, which also brought more people to talk to. But talking to the people just isn't as enthralling as it is in Baldur's Gate 2 were you can actually carry on a conversation with some of the non-player characters. One other thing that kind of bothered me is the monsters. They were basically the same monsters throughout the game, just looked a little different. In each act there were monster that had the same abilities as in the previous levels. Blizzard could of came up with a little more surprising abilities for the monsters as the levels grew in difficulty, but instead all they did was make them hit harder. But still I think that Blizzard has pulled off a very well done sequel to their less than equal Diablo 1.
With all this said I am still anticipating the release of their expansion pack for Diablo 2, Lord of Destruction I think is what it will be titled.
