The Bottom Line:
Buy it, play it, hope the expansion is all its supposed to be.
Diablo II: the huge release. We all waited for it. On the original Starcraft discs, it said coming in 1998. The wait nearly killed me. It took Blizzard so long to get put it out, they kept pushing back the release date. But then it was finally out. They kept the game play similar, but that is a good thing. They made more character classes, and more diverse character classes. This is also good. They didn't put it in some un-godly resolution just to bring the sys req's way up. This is better. They gave you running and the hugely useful ALT to look for items. It has so many good points. Yet, It also has so many bad points. In cons, I listed no loading screens. This is bad because it tries to load everything while you are playing. In single player, it means an annoyance. When playing on bnet(battle.net), however, it means death. Many, Many times. When you click that waypoint to go to the river of flames, bnet thinks that you are there. Your computer slows way down trying to load all the graphics and stuff, and ignores the fact that bnet is telling it that someone is coming. Them it ignores the fact that they are beating on you. then, it suddenly shows you 15 seconds of gameplay compressed into about 3 seconds, and you're dead. Its called being lagged to death, and I average once a day. On nightmare and Hell difficulty, you lose EXP for dying, so being lagged to death really sucks. One thing that they should have kept from the original is the ability to buy mana potions, and to have potions instantly heal you. Those Diablo I reflexes of not drinking a potion if you could take one more hit will get you very dead very fast. They got rid of mana shield, which is good for all the other classes but bad for the sorceress. (I know, I know, the sorc now has energy shield, it's just nowhere near as good) The number of items that can now be found is just INCREDIBLE. There are so many different combinations of equipment to put on your char, that any two people will have different equipment on. The classes can be taken down multiple routes to success, leading to excellent replayability. Overall, a game with huge potential that could have been done better but still is a great game.
