I was skeptical that all the delays and hype for this game would prove to be worth all the fuss. But curiosity got the better of me and made me go out and buy it anyway.
The gameplay is almost identical to that of diablo I, with a few minor differences. Now you can assign your right and left mouse buttons to different functions, adventuring is still point and click, and maps are still created at random whenever you begin a new quest. Here are some wortwhile changes though.
The character classes (now there are 5) actually mean something now. Each class has different abilities that increase with level. I have found myself so curious about each class that I currently have 3 characters going, none of them past level 12 or finished with the first act either.
One bad part about the game is that you can't save your game in a normal manner. Whenever you clear a dungeon and exit the game, when you come back to the game, you have to defeat the levels again. This is frustrating because if you have to leave on the middle of a game or you get too tired to continue, when you restart you have to clear all of the levels again. Also, you will always start back in the town instead of where you save.
To try and make up for this, they have placed 'waypoints' throughout the different areas to try ond speed up travel. You also can RUN in diablo 2, which makes long distance travel not quite as painful as it was in the first diablo.
The graphica and animations are very good for this type of game as well. The thought and design that went into every monster and character is incredible, and the sound effects that accompany the graphics will NOT disappoint you.
On a scale of 1-10, the graphics and sound are a solid 9, but gameplay would lag a bit down around a 7 or 8. The things that make is lower are:
-inability to save all aspects of your game
-Storage (cannot carry or 'stash' very many Items)
-NPC control (NPCs will just go off the handle and kill everything or get killed too rapidly. There needs to be more control over your hirelings, or at least be able to increase their level and trade items with them)
Otherwise, this game has it all. I definitely recommend this game, especially if you enjoyed the first diablo. Gotta go play it some more now. . .
