The AIM WIDE has the same footprint and woofers as the AIM 8.However, the rest of the speaker is a huge departure from thatfamiliar format. A unique dual mid-tweeter module is mounted directlyover the woofer with two 2-inch dome midrange drivers and two 1-inchdome tweeters facing 70 degrees off access from each other. Theresult is ultra-wide dispersion with tremendous fidelity. Creating a diffused sound field for rear channel surround has becomecritical to mimic the array of speakers along the side and back wallsof a traditional movie theater. The new AIM Cinema DiPole does this in avery elegant format. Each speaker has two 5¼ inch drivers and two 1-inch dome tweetersplaced 50 degrees off-axis from each other. Two switchable settingsallow the speaker to operate in either a bipole configuration or inopposite polarity as a dipole to create the desired null at thelistening area. In the second position there is a circuit to boostbass response, which would normally be lost in the cancellationthrou gh the opposite output from the two woofers. The drivers are mounted in a baffle that has been carefully moldedwith graceful curves and angles to avoid any sharp reflections. Theresult is a piece of acoustic artwork that is impressive in both itsstyle and its performance. Available in three models, the AIM Cinema DiPoleis destined to become a classic.
